United Way Of The Pennyrile Campaign North Of $190K

In what proved to be a jovial joint meeting of the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs of Hopkinsville Thursday afternoon, United Way of the Pennyrile campaign co-chairs Brooke Jung and Dan Kemp delivered good news surrounding the “Baking A Difference” march toward the $750,000 goal for the non-profit umbrella.

With divisions seeing a considerable and marked increase in charitable contributions and concentrated giving, Kemp and Jung noted more than $193,000 has already been collected at the mid-point — and that’s with several campaigns still out in the field.

More than $200 was raised on Thursday alone, when Kiwanis Club member and Christian County PVA Angie Strader, Rotary Club member and Hopkinsville CVB Finance & Office Manager Amy Rogers and United Way representative and Vice President Commercial Lending at Planters Bank Josh Ryan competed in a cake-design contest.

Using directions created by Jung and heavily-scripted like the classic “Great British Bake-off” series, the trio had 20 minutes to ice, design and letter a two-layer treat — with everyone in the room watching as they worked.

Ryan took first place, with his cake selling for $40 at auction. Both Rogers’ and Strader’s designs sold for $100, with all proceeds returned to the United Way.

Kemp could only smile before opening up the reports.

At this point, more than $67,000 has been raised by the Commercial Division, more than $23,000 is coming from the Industrial Division, more than $33,000 is coming from the Residential Division, more than $16,000 is coming from the Professional Division, and more than $37,000 is coming from the Government Division.

Again, this is with several campaigns still ongoing or yet to start. Kemp said steps are coming for contributions from Martinrea, while the Cadiz-Trigg County area will be chipping in contributions as the fundraiser continues.

The United Way of the Pennyrile has 19 organizations in its purview, and worker’s contributions can be designated to those specific organizations, or as an overall donation.

The campaign’s closing celebration dinner will be held on January 13, 2022 at the Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville.
