Mike Kem Announces He Will Not Seek 6th Term as County Clerk

Mike Kem has announced he will not seek a sixth term as the Christian County clerk. Kem made the announcement at Tuesday morning‘s fiscal court meeting saying that it was not a retirement announcement. He added that would come next December.

Kem was elected Christian County clerk in 1998 after serving five years as fiscal court magistrate. He thanked the court for its support and noted the changes the office has undergone through the years.

click to download audioThe duties of the county clerk include registering licenses for motor vehicles, recording and keeping records of various legal documents, voter registration, election duties, and tax duties. Kem also serves as the clerk of the fiscal court and attends all meetings to maintain a record of both the meetings and any proceedings.

Candidates can begin to file for the 2022 primary election on Wednesday, November 3. Last week, Erica Newby announced she was running for the office of county clerk on the Republican ticket.
