Christian County Offering Next Phase Of COVID-19 Booster Shots

The Christian County Health Department will begin administering COVID-19 booster shots Thursday, October 28, to a number of groups who qualify under newly released guidelines.

Health Department officials say shots will be available at the health department Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45 am until 4:15 pm. The health department will offer both the Moderna and John & Johnson boosters. Although walk-ins will be taken, the health department those wanting to get a booster shot are encouraged to make an appointment to avoid long waits and keep an even flow of traffic.

Appointments can be made through the Christian County Health Department website or by calling the health department.

Guidelines for COVID-19 Booster Shots

Pfizer & Moderna Booster:

 Must be 6 months after the completion of the initial vaccine series

 65 years and older

 18 years of age and older who reside in long-term care settings

 18-64 years of age with certain underlying health conditions (detailed below)

 18-64 years who live or work in high-risk settings

Janssen Booster Guidance:

 The use of a single booster dose of the Janssen COVID-19 may be administered at least 2 months after completion of the single-dose series

 The same product that was used for the primary series should be used for the booster. If that is not available or another product is preferred, boosting with a single dose of any of the authorized COVID-19 vaccine boosters is acceptable.

Heterologous (Mix & Match) Booster Guidance:

 The same product that was used for the primary series should be used for the booster

 If that is not available or another product is preferred, boosting with a single dose of any of the authorized COVID-19 vaccine boosters is acceptable

 Mix and match may be considered for the booster dose only

 Interval should follow the interval recommended by the primary series

Underlying Medical Conditions that have increased risk of severe COVID-19 infection:

 Cancer

 Chronic kidney disease

 Chronic lung disease (including COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and pulmonary hypertension

 Dementia or other neurological conditions

 Diabetes (type 1 or type 2)

 Down syndrome

 Heat conditions

 HIV infection

 Immunocompromised state

 Liver disease

 Overweight or obese

 Pregnancy or recently pregnant people

 Sickle cell disease of thalassemia

 Smoking, current or former

 Solid-organ or blood stem cell transplant

 Stroke or cerebrovascular disease

 Substance abuse disorders
