If you’re a local veteran in or near the Hopkinsville area, VFW Post 1913 is still looking for you to join its 2021 Veterans Day Parade.

Set to launch at 10 in the morning Saturday from the War Memorial Building at 1202 South Virginia Street, Post Commander John Brame said the parade route is roughly three-tenths of a mile down to the Christian County Justice Center — and will be led by local sheriff, city police and state police vehicles.

Veterans that are marching in the parade will be given a flag courtesy of Post 1913, while the Christian County Chamber of Commerce will be passing out flags to patrons showing support from sidewalks.

A parade that’s been ongoing for years, Brame noted this year’s march will include sidewalk saluters, three different junior ROTC programs, 2-to-3 marching bands and a Fort Campbell static display.

Veterans who want to participate, but perhaps cannot march that distance, will be able to ride a float supplied by Hopkinsville’s recreation officials, and a live broadcast of the parade will be on WHVO’s 96.5 FM and 100.9 FM with news director Alan Watts and Brame on the call.

Veterans Day is November 11, and Brame said a luncheon to host the “Voice of Democracy” and “Patriot Pen” essay winners is in order, where they’ll be able to recite their own words before receiving cash prizes..

On November 19, a Thanksgiving meal will be hosted at the post headquarters, too, which is located at 1601 VFW Lane in Hopkinsville.
