The Christian County Board of Education has released a list of potential names for the new combined high school as well as a list of mascots and color schemes.
Last month, the school board voted 3-2 to combine Hopkinsville High School and Christian County High School into a single learning academy on nearly 90 acres of land on Fort Campbell Boulevard at Lovers Lane.
On Monday, Assistant Superintendent Josh Hunt gave an update on the naming process by way of a video posted to the school district’s social media accounts. He said over 1,500 suggestions had been received and a small committee narrowed those down.

The five choices of school colors are black and royal blue; royal blue and orange; red and black; navy blue and gold; and yellow and royal blue.
The choices for mascot are Bulldogs; Thoroughbreds; Tigers; Titans; and Wolves or Wolfpack. While the Tigers are the mascot of choice for 12 high schools in the state and Bulldogs for 11, only one school — Newport Central Catholic — uses the Thoroughbreds and one school — Wolfe County — uses the Wolves. Three Kentucky high schools use the nickname Titans as a mascot. No high school in the state has the Wolfpack as a mascot name. The Wolves could be seen as a nod to Hopkinsville Attucks High School who used the Wolves as its mascot until the school was dissolved in 1967.
None of the mascot choices come from any of the five county schools closed in the late 1950s and consolidated into Christian County High School. The Colonel mascot used by Christian County since it opened in 1959 also did not make the cut.
Hunt said another survey will appear on the school district’s website for people to vote for their favorite name, mascot, and color scheme.
