Kentucky State Police have charged a Princeton man with the death of a Hopkinsville man whose body was discovered Thursday night, with the investigation linked to a woman’s body found in a car in Trigg County Thursday morning.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Sarah Burgess said 34-year-old Candace Marcel of Hopkinsville was found dead in the passenger seat of a car that was discovered by a Trigg County Sheriff’s Deputy while on patrol on Cerulean Road. An autopsy conducted Friday at the Western Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville determined Marcel died of a single gunshot wound and classified her death as a homicide.
During the course of their investigation, police searched Marcel’s home on Clearman Court in Hopkinsville. It was there that they located the body of 35-year-old Stanley Bussell, who had reportedly died of a gunshot wound.
As the result of both investigations, Hopkinsville Police arrested 49-year-old Bobby Spikes of Hopkinsville, who also reportedly had a Princeton address.
According to the Hopkinsville Police arrest citation the victim, Stanley Bussell, was lured by a female coworker, identified by State Police as Marcel, to her residence where Bussell was shot in the head. The report indicates Spikes is the boyfriend of Marcel and Spikes is known to frequent her residence.
State police detectives are working closely with Hopkinsville Police to investigate the two deaths. As of Friday afternoon, no charges have been filed in connection to Marcel’s death.
Spikes was charged with murder and lodged in Christian County Jail. He was arraigned in Christian County District Court Friday morning where Judge Foster Cothoff entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and set bond at $500,000.
