For high school sports fans across the state, the ‘summer shutdown’ is finally past. The high school dead period officially came to an end Tuesday night at midnight.
With the end of the dead period comes the ‘beginning’ of the 2024-2025 athletic year. Coaches and players can once again be in contact with one another. Practices and supervised workouts can resume, and the calendar begins to get busy pretty quickly with all kinds of sports activity.
The first few days of will find teams participating in summer camps, either at home or at college campuses like Western Kentucky University and Centre College.
The first ‘big’ event of the week comes up Friday and Saturday as the ‘Best of the West’ 7-on-7 passing tournament will be held at the Stadium of Champions. McCracken County is also hosting a 7-on-7 event Friday evening.
Just over a week away is the biggest preseason soccer event of the summer as teams from all across the state will head to Lexington for the annual Bluegrass State Games. High school volleyball teams will make the same trip for the games the following weekend.
The fall high school sports season in the area will officially kick off July 22 as Henderson County hosts its boys’ golf invitational. That same day, Daviess County is hosting the Lady Panther Golf Invitational.
The first cross country meet of the fall season is set for August 17.
The high school soccer season regular season begins the week of August 12. Volleyball and football will get their seasons officially started the following week.
