Christian County Schools to Resume Wednesday; Pembroke, Crofton to Remain Closed

Christian County Schools will resume classes Wednesday with the exception of Pembroke and Crofton Elementary Schools.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel said while it was important the school district return to in-person support as well as in-person classes, those families who are dealing with storm recovery and hardship can keep their students at home without penalty for the remainder of the week.

Crofton Elementary will remain closed until power is restored to the building. Pembroke will remain closed until January due to damage from Friday’s EF-2 tornado that struck Pembroke.

Bentzel said South Christian Elementary School will reopen Wednesday although they are without landline phones or internet.

He added some bus routes may experience some delays due to road closures.

Elsewhere, high school final exams will be postponed until the week of January 4 with each high school publishing their revised finals schedules.

People who wish to provide storm relief items to the Christian County community can drop off materials at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School gym from 8 am to 3 pm. Anyone affected by the storms can pick up relief materials at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School gym from 8 am – 3 pm.

Pembroke students can pick up food at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School or South Christian Elementary School. Crofton students can pick up food at Sinking Fork Elementary School.

Bentzel said this week’s missed school days will not be added to the school calendar.
