Man Charged After Denzil Drive Shooting

A Hopkinsville man was charged after exchanging gunfire with someone on Denzil Drive in Hopkinsville Thursday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to the area for a report of shots fired just after 4 pm and located four shell casings in the parking lot.

After talking to witnesses, police say a vehicle that was seen leaving after the shots were fired was located on Walnut Street at Morningside Drive in a parking lot.

The driver 21-year-old Akim Barry reportedly told police someone shot at him and he returned shots across the parking lot. No one was injured and no damage to any property has been located.

Police say Barry told them he tossed his gun in an unknown location but later admitted to giving the gun to someone else. Barry is charged with tampering with physical evidence and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

Police ask if you have any information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 270-887-TIPS(8477).
