Preliminary Report Indicates EF3 Hit South Christian

Palmyra Road – Christian County

Following a preliminary survey from the offices in Memphis and Nashville that was completed Friday, the December 10 and 11 tornado that ravaged south Christian County and moved eastward has been ruled an EF3.

The long tracking tornado moved 122.7 miles from 10:32 p.m. last Friday until 12:36 a.m. Saturday, traveling from its formation in Newbern, Tennessee, before lifting in Todd County and eventually touching back down on its way to Warren County.

Estimated peak winds reached 160 miles per hour, and its estimated peak size was more than a half-mile wide.

For the Kentucky portion of this track, the tornado destroyed multiple mobile homes, tobacco barns and equipment garages — while several homes were significantly damaged. Thirteen injuries have been reported due to this twister, which crossed the Cumberland River, passed near Fort Donelson National Battlefield and continued into southern Christian County and Pembroke.
