Motorists need to be alert for slow-moving trucks as crews with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in District 1 and District 2 plan to ramp up pre-treating activities along area highways during the day in anticipation of wintry precipitation beginning overnight Friday and continuing through Sunday.
Officials say while accumulation totals in the forecast vary widely at this time, highway crews are pre-treating “A” Snow Priority Routes today, and then will continue anti-icing efforts along ‘B’ and ‘C’ Snow Priority Routes on Friday when the forecast is more firm.
The ‘A’ Snow Priority Routes are generally 4-lane highways, interstates, and U.S. highways.
Spokesman Keith Todd with District 1 says crews will be spraying brine on highway surfaces with the district’s supertanker spraying along Interstate 24, and Interstate 69 at regular traffic speeds. He says the supertanker may also pre-treat other 4-lane routes as time allows.
