Officials Urge Caution For Local Roadways

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 spokesman Keith Todd said their crews have observed anywhere from one inch to two inches of snow in and around parts of west Kentucky Friday morning.

Crews will be back out today plowing and re-salting roads, in order to continue the creation of slush — which is easier to plow, and easier to navigate.

Along the Trigg County and Lyon County line, Todd added that several crews will be working Friday and into the weekend removing several large trees — which have toppled and blocked some roadways. Todd noted several of these trees are big enough for the use of extended crews and heavy equipment.

The Trace in Land Between the Lakes seems to be one of the hardest-hit areas in west Kentucky, in what could be a couple of days before that artery is unclogged.

Had the precipitation not converted to sleet as quickly as it did Thursday, Todd said more trees and powerlines could’ve been downed.

Among the more difficult places to travel right now: Rockcastle Road and KY 139 between Cadiz and Princeton, Dawson Springs Road, and KY 800 in Crofton.

News Edge’s John Godsey said Interstate 24 was mostly clear around Cadiz, Hopkinsville, Princeton, and Eddyville, with some build-up along the sides, but there were multiple car accidents south of the Tennessee state line.

Due to a recent crash, I-24 eastbound has been restricted to one lane at the 32 mile-marker in Livingston County. KYTC officials said the estimated delay could be up to two hours.

The crash involves a motor home and another vehicle, with a passenger trapped. Another minor crash has also been reported at the 33 mile-marker.

There is no impact on westbound traffic at this time.
