The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Flood Warning in effect until 6:45 Thursday evening for portions of western Kentucky, including the counties of Caldwell, Christian, Hopkins, Trigg and Webster.
Meteorologists say periods of heavy rain are expected to move across the warning area through the afternoon hours. They add that given the relatively moist ground condition, much of the rainfall will runoff much quicker than expected, leading to an increased chance for flooding, especially in low-lying and poorly drained locations.
As of mid-morning, meteorologists say Doppler radar indicated heavy rainfall and scattered thunderstorms, with between 1 to 2 inches of rain that has already fallen in the warned area. They say additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible.
Remember, turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads, because officials say most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
