A month ago, the Trigg County Fiscal Court heard a comprehensive presentation from Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 section supervisor Michael Oliver — who dissected the rural secondary road improvement recommendations for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
In that discussion, Oliver conservatively noted that this year’s tentative allocation would come to nearly $1.375 million — which would be just enough for the standard maintenance of 137 miles of county road, two specific projects, about $25,000 for asphalt patching, with the remaining 20% falling into the county flex fund.
During Monday’s meeting, the fiscal court approved Oliver’s plan on even better conditions, as new calculations from the state road fund comes to a shade more than $1.5 million for the county.
Oliver’s map for 2022-23 resurfacing includes 5.2 miles of Cerulean Road from White to Guinn roads, at a cost of more than $475,000, and 1.28 miles of Rockcastle Road from Beach Bend Drive to Mershons Bridge, at a cost of more than $120,000.
From there, Oliver said it’s recently cost the state nearly $3,500 per mile for standard county road maintenance — and that asphalt and salt costs are nearly equitable.
County flex funds, which can be used for assorted road projects, should come to roughly $302,000 for this next fiscal year.
Oliver also noted in that early April meeting that four other paving projects that aren’t funded through rural secondary monies will be coming to Trigg County in the next few months.
These include:
— Old Dover Road from 272 to the Bypass
— Roaring Spring Road from KY 139 to Maggie Road
— South Road from Saw Mill Road to the US 68 Bypass
— South Road from the Tennessee Line to KY 164
In other county road news, the court approved the second reading of an ordinance to reduce the speed of a section for the Old Hopkinsville Road from 55 to 35 mph.
This section goes from the western terminus of Oliver Road to North Montgomery Road, and spans roughly 1.8 miles while passing Camelot, Kingswood and Deepwood Estates.
