Crofton Elementary School will be closed Wednesday, May 11 due to the emergency repair of an electric substation nearby.
A release from the Christian County School System said Kentucky Utilities will be shutting down the substation Wednesday morning at 8 with the outage to last around three hours.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel said due to the disruption, the decision was made to cancel classes at Crofton Elementary. He said the district will apply for an Emergency Day Waiver with the Kentucky Department of Education to avoid having the missed school day added to the school calendar for students.
He added KSA testing will resume on Thursday when students and staff return to the building. Staff from Crofton Elementary will report to work on Wednesday morning at Christian County Middle School. Bentzel said the workday at an offsite location will allow the staff to fulfill their contractual obligation for this school year without adding an additional workday to the school calendar.
