A man was charged after narrowly missing law enforcement and leading them on a short pursuit in Hopkinsville Tuesday night.
Hopkinsville Police say they attempted to stop 37-year-old Stephen Walls after a report of him hitting signs and the curb on Clinic Drive. He was located by police and was allegedly slumped over the wheel in the driver’s seat and he fled when asked to step out of his vehicle narrowly missing law enforcement.
Hopkinsville Police officer Alan Vance used spike strips to deflate Walls’ tires as he turned onto Fort Campbell Boulevard.
The pursuit came to an end when Christian County Sheriff’s deputies used a pursuit intervention technique to stop and disable the vehicle near Novadell Way.
After a search of his vehicle, police say 1.8 ounces of meth, 14 grams of marijuana, steroids in liquid and pill form, a digital scale, a marijuana grinder, and prescription medication for someone who was not in the vehicle were all found. Wells was reportedly found to have two bags of heroin in his pants.
He was driving on a suspended license and had been charged with DUI six times before this arrest. The vehicle he was in had not been registered since 2015.
Walls was arrested and charged with DUI fourth or more, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree assault of a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and trafficking Fentanyl, meth, marijuana, and heroin.
He was also found to have an active warrant out of Tennessee.
