Trial Delayed In Hazel Street Murder Case

The trial of a Hopkinsville man charged in a fatal shooting in July of 2021 on Hazel Street was delayed during a pretrial conference in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.

Leon Grimes is charged with murder in connection to the death of 28-year old Calvin Buckner.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Grimes’ attorney Ted Shouse told Judge Andrew Self he has a conflict with the trial date that was scheduled for June 27th due to another murder case is representing.

click to download audioJudge Self moved the trial to October 3 at 8:30 and scheduled another pretrial conference for the afternoon of August 17 at 1:00.

Hopkinsville Police said Grimes shot Buckner in the chest at a party on July 4, 2021. Hopkinsville Police said Buckner was transported by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Grimes remains lodged in the Christian County Jail.
