The Pennyrile region received good news last week that showed jobless rates dropping throughout the nine-county area in the first four months of 2022. However, the April numbers almost mirror those from the same month last year.
Christian County’s April unemployment rate was 5.2% compared to 5.5% in January. It was also 5.2% in April of 2021.
The estimates from the Kentucky Center for Statistics show Christian County with a labor force of 25,101 people, which is a decline of 15 people from January but an increase of 633 people from last year.
The numbers show 1,155 people actively seeking work in April compared to 1,280 a year ago.
In Trigg County, the April jobless rate was 4.7%, down from January’s 5.5% rate and unchanged from April of last year.
The estimates show Trigg with a civilian labor force of 6,029 people, which is a decrease of 148 people from January but a jump of 117 people from April of last year.
The numbers show 228 people actively seeking work in April compared to 277 a year ago.
In Todd County, the April jobless rate was 3.3%, the lowest in the nine-county Pennyrile region. That was down two-tenths of a percent from January and unchanged from April of last year.
The estimates show Todd County with a civilian labor force of 5,430 people, which is a decrease of 125 people from January and an increase of eight over April of last year.
The numbers show 156 people actively seeking work in April compared to 180 a year ago.
Statewide, unemployment rates rose in seven Kentucky counties, fell in 110 counties, and stayed the same in three counties between March and April.
Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 2.5% followed by Cumberland
and Oldham counties at 2.6% each.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 10.5%. It was followed by Breathitt
County at 7.6% as eastern Kentucky counties recorded the 11 highest jobless rates in the state in April.
