Christian County health officials are seeing a marked increase in reported COVID-19 cases with June’s total more than the previous three months combined.
According to the health department, there have been 312 reported cases in June. Nearly one-third of the active cases involve people 60 and older. Cloie Rager with the health department said there are several reasons for the increase.

Rager said the health department continues to contract trace but with fewer people than the past.

click to download audioThe increase in cases hasn’t sounded the alarm as in the past because symptoms have mostly been reported to be mild or moderate and not required as many hospitalizations as in the past when the case number spiked.
With most Americans returning to pre-COVID behavior, including increased travel, health officials are keeping an eye on both case numbers and health care availability.
Improvements to vaccines and medications to treat symptoms that weren’t available two years ago are also keeping fears down.
