Fiscal Court Hears Annual Trigg Sheriff’s Office Crime Data

In what was the annually scheduled review of the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Aaron Acree used Monday evening’s Trigg County Fiscal Court session to reveal a number of key factoids about county crimes committed in the last year.

Among the figures, and from July 2021 through June 2022:

— The sheriff’s office logged three rapes, seven assaults, 16 burglaries, 27 larcenies, four auto thefts and one robbery.
— The top six roads for roadway collisions included I-24 East with 27, I-24 West with 24, Canton Road with 16, Rocky Ridge Road with 15, Princeton Road with 14, Cerulean Road with 12 and South Road with 10.
— Of the county’s 190 total collisions, 74 people were injured and three people were killed.
— More than 60% of the county’s speeding citations came from Bypass and Canton roads, combined.
— Cerulean Road had the most DUI citations with six. Hopkinsville Road, Main Street and Canton Road each had four. Forty DUI citations were issued last year.
— Seventeen seatbelt citations were issued, including a high of four on Main Street.
— Among roadways in which drugs were involved in a stop, Hopkinsville Road had the most with 14. Canton Road had 11, while Main Street and Bypass Road each had five.
— A pair of burglaries were each reported on Adams Mill Road and West End Street.

Acree also presented magistrates with a comparison to the 2020-21 fiscal year, noting county crime is generally down in the last 12 months.

While Trigg County certainly has its natural hot spots for criminal activity, speeding and propensity for auto collisions and accidents, Acree said the data is stratified because the sheriff’s agency isn’t just camped on the side of the road.

In the last fiscal year, Acree said he took more than 560 calls of service and 300 total cases opened alone, and that’s clearly not counting his deputies — which he said averaged between 800 and 1,000 generated cases.

In other court news:

— Faye Godair, of the sheriff’s office, noted that of the $10.4 million in last year’s tax settlement, around $133,000 remains delinquent.
— Magistrates unanimously approved the removal of .14 miles comprising of Swallow Tail Lane, owned by Mike Keith, be removed from the county road map.
— They also unanimously approved the addition of .25 miles just north of Avalon Drive on KY 124, to be named Bunny Lane.
— Mason Hyde was appointed to the Barkley Lake Water Board, to fill the unexpired term of the late Mike Hyde through December 31, 2023.
— Magistrate Mike Wright added that the purchasing deadline for “Hometown Heroes” flags in Cadiz and Trigg County has been extended to August 1.
