Representatives of Porter Road in Princeton would’ve loved to have been a part of the 2021 “ComeBack” Job Fair in Hopkinsville, but the timing wasn’t there.
The Nashville-based butcher shop was in the midst of its massive move from Hopkinsville Road to Masonic Drive — going from a 7,000-square-foot facility to one four times as large. Things were positive, but hectic.
Thursday afternoon, however, Porter Road Human Resources Director and Princeton native Brandy Holloman was posted at the 2022 “Step Into A Job” Fair at the Bruce Convention Center in Christian County.
And of the 58 businesses represented at the capitalistic carnival, she and Porter Road were the only ones from Caldwell County.
Holloman noted that the company is always hiring butchers and janitors, in order to keep production rolling a steady pace.
Both seem like intimidating jobs, but Holloman added that people can come in with little to no experience — and in 24 months or less be professionals.
Holloman said being at Hopkinsville’s job fair for the first time was a unique and special experience, particularly after more than 200 individuals walked through the doors in a five-hour span.
But the job fair itself wasn’t daunting for her.
She said she got some “amazing” resumes, taking in eight that will either get callbacks or go in the front of a quick file. Some of those, she added, could end up being staff members in Princeton, while others fit the company’s regional and national profile at the corporate office in Tennessee.
A vertically-integrated, whole-animal butcher business, Porter Road’s pasture-raised meat comes from Livingston County, and its customers can obtain specific cuts at employee discount prices.
A shift in e-commerce doubled the company’s revenue during the pandemic, as shoppers sought grocery and produce shipping options from the comforts of their own home.
