A bomb threat in a barracks building on Fort Campbell early Thursday proved to be a false alarm but did close gates to both inbound and outbound traffic while it was investigated.
Explosive ordnance disposal personnel from the 52nd Ordnance Group cleared the building while gates were closed to traffic on and off the installation and military police established checkpoints around 2:45 Thursday morning.
An investigation determined it to be a false alarm and was not part of a full-scale exercise involving installation emergency response personnel, medical, and garrison staff that was scheduled to end Thursday.
Soldiers returning from a rotation at the Joint Readiness Training Center were delayed returning home for several hours due to the gate closures. The incident remains under investigation.
