Friends of Land Between the Lakes have announced the upcoming of two major events on their calendar: the 1850s Homeplace “Apple Fest” and the Kentucky Lake Shore Cleanup.
Set for October 15 & 16 from 10 AM until 3 PM, Apple Fest annually celebrates crisp fall weather and explores the uses, history and crafts often associated with apples. Attendees will see the process of making cider, learn the story of Johnny Appleseed, partaking in apple carving and more.
An Amish Bake Sale will be from 10 AM until 1 PM both days, as will demonstrations for making apple butter, set for 10 AM until 2:30 PM.
All activities are included in the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm “special events” fees, which is $9 for those 18 and older, $7 for those aged 5-to-17, and free for all under four years old. It’s also uniquely timed with Trigg County’s 46th Annual Country Ham Festival, as pork and apples complement each other rather effectively.
Then, on October 22, a partner volunteer opportunity awaits west Kentuckians with the shore cleanup. It’s in collaboration with Living Lands & Waters and Keep The Tennessee River Beautiful associates, and will run from 10 AM until 2 PM.
Those interested can sign up online at keeptnriverbeautiful.org, with the cleanup set to begin at Town and Country Marina in Benton.
