Trial Date Set For Trigg County Infant Murder Suspect

With mediation an ineffective option, a jury trial date has been set for Shaylynn Curtis — a Trigg County woman charged with both murder and abuse of a corpse in the death of her infant son.

During a Wednesday pretrial conference in Trigg County Circuit Court, Judge Jamus Redd, Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins and Public Defender Katy Riley agreed that a two-day window beginning July 24, 2023 would be best.

Riley, who entered into the case in early August, said she likely couldn’t be ready until at least March of next year. It will be kept in Redd’s division of the 56th Circuit.

Furthermore, Redd said some big changes are coming to his monthly ruling docket next year.

The next pretrial conference for Curtis will likely be held to discuss evidentiary details, and was scheduled for 9 AM, March 8.

Following a Kentucky State Police investigation that was completed a year ago, Curtis reportedly took the body of her deceased 5-month-old, wrapped the child in a blanket, and placed him in the attic of her East Adams Mill Road home.

She is also charged with first degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and second-degree disorderly conduct.
