Gas prices in west central Kentucky continued their welcome descent this week, with average prices down 16 cents from last — now at an average $2.86/gallon.
The average price last week was $3.02, and the average price at this time last year was $2.95/gallon.
In Bowling Green, it’s hovering around $2.91, in Elizabethtown $2.72, in Louisville $3.30, in Owensboro $2.57 and in Paducah $2.79.
According to GasBuddy.com, Christian County has prices between $2.45 and $2.65 per gallon, Trigg County has prices between $2.79 and $2.99, Caldwell County has prices between $2.69 and $2.99, Todd County is near $2.57, and Lyon County is ranging from $2.67 and $3.37.
The national average price at the pump also dropped another 14 cents this week, down to $3.26 per gallon. That’s 52 cents less than last month, and six cents less than a year ago. More than 30 states are experiencing averages lower than this time in 2021.
Americans are, at the moment, driving less, and oil prices remain lower. From the Energy Information Administration, gas demand remains low — at 8.36 million barrels per day over the last seven, or 605,000 barrels per day lower than the same stretch last season.
Following last Friday’s close of the markets, West Texas Intermediate reported a 44-cent drop in price per barrel to $71.02. Crude prices also softened last week, as the American dollar improved.
America’s commercial crude supply is 19 million barrels lower than the beginning of December 2021.
