Two Men Charged With Attempted Forgery

Two Memphis, Tennessee men were charged with attempted forgery after a report of a kidnapping at the Travel Inn in Hopkinsville Wednesday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say after receiving a report of a possible kidnapping they searched the motel room of 46-year-old Michael Sanders and 42-year-old Sheldon Winston and found a printer, a computer, and 19 blank check pages. A woman reportedly told police they wanted her to cash some checks for them in exchange for some money.

Pieces of three fraudulent checks portraying Wendy’s fast food restaurant were allegedly found in a trash can inside the room at the Travel Inn rented by Winston with an identification card with another man’s name on it.

Police say the report of a kidnapping was found to be untrue.

They were both located during a traffic stop on Younglove Street where they were arrested and charged with attempted first-degree forgery, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, and possession of a forgery device.
