The Cadiz Police Department investigated 480 criminal cases in 2022 despite working the entire year without a full complement of officers.

Police Chief Duncan Wiggins presented the year-end report to the Cadiz City Council last week. On average, the department opened 40 criminal cases a month or nine a week.

There were 170 arrests made by the department in 2022 and 790 citations issued which averaged out to 14 arrests per month and 65 citations.

The number of traffic crashes investigated by the department – 134 – represented a continued decline over the past decade which can be attributed to the installation of traffic lights on U.S. 68 at the intersections of Main Street and Broadbent Boulevard.

Of the 134 crashes, 21 resulted in injury or less than two a month.

Cadiz Police answered 5,837 calls for service in 2022 which is an average of 15 per day.

Chief Wiggins told the council that Officer Brian Carroll is scheduled to begin his training at the police academy in early March. He also told the council that the December resignation of school resource officer Shawn Young leaves the department looking to fill that position.
