Some Christian County High School juniors and seniors sharpened their employability skills at a special workshop last week.
Victoria Mohon, the school’s Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor, organized the event. She told the News Edge it taught students grooming and dress for the workplace, building character, and conflict resolution.
Senior Cameron Haag said even though he wants to attend trade school after high school, events like this are important.
One of the biggest surprises for Haag was learning about businesses’ varying dress codes.
Randy Goff, a senior at the school, is considering working with electrical components of the railroad system. He currently works for Cayce Mill Supply in Hopkinsville through the school’s co-op program.
Goff said learning valuable skills like resume building throughout his time in school has helped him.
He added that the most important lesson he learned is that references are crucial and a resume should be limited to one page.
Junior Cayleigh Clay, who is looking to find a job in the equestrian world as her co-op position next school year, said the most important thing to her was learning better social skills.
She encouraged other students to find their interests now.
The event, held Friday, featured appearances by First Financial Bank, Hutson Ag, Hopkinsville Community College, and the Christian County Extension Office.
