Just before Memorial Day Weekend 2021, officials with the Lake Barkley State Resort Park were able to welcome a new entrance sign — one that was necessary following the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s widening of US 68/80.
However, that intersection — and this new structure — remained mostly until for the last two years, prompting motorists and local visitors to wonder why.
That changed late Monday evening, when a months-long collaboration between the park, KYTC and contract laborers finished installing four new light panels for the sign’s base.
Ashley Johnson, interim park contact, said there’s some excitement around its completion, simply because it was a long time coming. Its electrical resources come from across the four-lane road, and as such, Johnson added that took considerable time to draft and eventually construct.
The new sign and its lighting were part of a replacement process first confirmed in the opening quarter of 2021.
