Local childcare initiatives are beginning to take shape across our region, and as a result, more industries could locate in our area.
The region has been dubbed a ‘childcare desert,’ with up to four children on a waiting list for every open spot at local daycares. A recent initiative between Christian County Public Schools and the South Western Kentucky EDC hopes to create more childcare opportunities.
As reported by the News Edge last week, the school district announced the hiring of Tina Jarrett, who will serve as the coordinator of the up-and-coming Inspire Early Learning Academy in Hopkinsville.
The center will be located at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School and will help “ease the burden of finding childcare in the area.”
SWK EDC Director Carter Hendricks tells the News Edge that programs like this will help make his job a little easier.
Hendricks says private or public opportunities in the childcare market will help greatly.
Christian County Public School board members voted in December to establish the Inspire Early Learning Academy. Hendricks says they are excited about the partnership with the district and hopes the potential positive outcomes can be replicated in Todd and Trigg counties.
