Additional affordable housing opportunities for those 55 and older are coming to Hopkinsville next year.
The Housing Authority of Hopkinsville and Affordable Housing of Hopkinsville announced earlier this week a new 80-unit apartment complex would be constructed on Old Lovers Lane.
Vickie Smiley, executive director of the Housing Authority of Hopkinsville, tells the News Edge the apartments will be one-story, and each building with feature a breezeway.
The funding for the project comes from a nine-percent tax credit grant. Construction will begin in late fall, with an expected first move-in date of spring 2024.
Smiley says these apartments are much needed in Hopkinsville.
Applications for the new apartments will not be accepted until next year, but Smiley adds they will accept them in multiple ways.
The neighborhood will be known as Good Aker Village, which serves as a nod to housing authority board member and former Model Cleaners owner Tim Goodaker.
