Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland has announced a new, strategic partnership with Pennyrile Allied Community Services in Hopkinsville — in hopes of better serving seniors who may face hunger issues in Christian County.
In this endeavor, PACS will now be one of the operators of the “Commodity Supplemental Food Program.”
A USDA program, the CSFP typically works to improve the health of low-income persons aged 60 years or older, by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA foods. As a new site, PACS will offer flexible monthly food distribution for these qualifying seniors — removing scheduling or transportation conflicts previously observed, which has a chance to exclude some seniors from embracing and receiving these resources.
PACS currently serves several counties in west Kentucky, and it often empowers individuals and families to find self-reliance with assistance, education and accountability, and the organization provides Medicare enrollment and assistance, transportation services, meal delivery, a community meal and other resources.
According to FAKH, 1 in 10 seniors in this region do not get enough food for a healthy lifestyle, so this is the kind of measure that hopes to meet that lagging 10%.
PACS is located at 1100 S. Liberty Street. More can be learned about this new service by contacting their office at (270) 886-6341, or online at pacs-ky.org.
