The Cadiz Lions Club and the VFW Post 7890 are again teaming up to continue a March tradition to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a day early.

The ladies’ auxiliary of the VFW post and the Lions Club will be having a corned beef and cabbage fundraiser on Thursday at the post located at 37 Lafayette Street.

Marsha Pater with the Lions Club says the $15 meal will include corned beef, cabbage, vegetables, dessert, and water, and the work to prepare it is pretty much a week-long effort.

They chose beef and cured it with corn-sized salt crystals during the brining process. Cabbage was chosen because it was one of the cheapest vegetables available to the immigrants.

Lunch will be served at the VFW from 11 to 1:30 and deliveries will be made for orders of five or more.
