Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree spent part of the day Wednesday alerting area senior citizens to scams that are becoming prevalent.
During his nearly 30-minute presentation, Sheriff Acree said common scams come from phone calls, emails, and sometimes letters received in the mail.
He added scams can happen to anyone and shared a recent experience with a scammer spoofing a phone number and pretending to be from his child’s school.
He said the scammer was asking him to visit the store and purchase eBay gift cards and to send the codes on them.
Acree added if you are asked to do something that sounds like a scam, no matter the form of communication, to share the information with his office.
