2023 Cadiz Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt Swarms West Cadiz Park

If one happened to drive by the West Cadiz Park around 1 PM Saturday, they would’ve seen children aged 1-10, as well as some parents, in a mad dash for prized treasures — each filled with delicious candy, winning tickets, or perhaps both.

It was the 2023 Cadiz Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt, which courtesy of warm weather and blue skies proved to be wild fun and well-attended.

Marsha Pater, president, said the roughly 4,000 eggs were donated by Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism, while a slew of monetary donations came from the Cadiz Rotary Club, some local farmers and most of the downtown business district.

Furthermore, a trio of churches — Cadiz Baptist, Ponderosa and Crossroads Fellowship — provided snack foods and drinks for kids, who patiently waited in line to cash in their tickets for a number of great prizes.

Pater said she and fellow member Cindy Calhoun begin their shopping efforts the day after Easter, and it’ll be no different this spring when they ship out together in search of great deals on stuffed animals, age-appropriate toys and other Easter fixtures.

With so much surplus this past fundraising campaign, Pater and Calhoun are already gearing up for 2024’s efforts.

According to Pater, this is the largest community event from the Cadiz Lions Club. They gave away chocolate bunnies and other assorted knick-knacks, and offered free pictures with the beloved Easter Bunny.

What’s funny, Pater said, is that one of the children who regularly participates in the hunts has no clue that for the past two springs, it’s been her own mother in the costume.

For the safety, protection and anonymity of this Easter emissary, their identity won’t be revealed at this time.

Pater said Saturday’s efforts wouldn’t have been possible without Trigg County’s Boys Scouts of America contingent, as well as trio of Trigg County High School students who aided with pre-game setup and takedown.
