The Commodores Coming To Hopkinsville’s Summer Salute

Another legendary music group has been tapped to play at the 2023 Summer Salute Festival in Hopkinsville.

On Monday, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation announced the legendary R&B/funk group, The Commodores, will headline Saturday night, August 26, at the 7th annual festival.

Last week it was announced that STARSHIP would headline Friday night. Both concerts will take place on the Justice Center Stage.

The Grammy Award-winning group will bring their foundation of popular records to the festival. The Commodores were Motown’s largest-selling act throughout the 70s and 80s and racked up a string of hits including: “Machine Gun”, “Brick House”, “Easy”, “Three Times A Lady”, and others that moved an entire generation.

The Commodores formed in 1968 while the individual members attended college at Tuskegee Institute. They quickly made a name for themselves, catching the eye of the Jackson 5 and Berry Gordy, and went on to sell over 60 million records for Motown.

The group was where legendary artist Lionel Ritchie got his start but he was replaced in 1983.

As for the Summer Salute, vendor space has sold out. Parks and Recreation officials say a waiting list has been created to accommodate additional vendor interest.
