While gas prices have significantly spiked in the last month, prices could be trending downward before getting into the summer months.
Per the weekly AAA East Central Gas Price Report, unleaded petrol in west central Kentucky is down an average seven cents per gallon from the last seven days — now at $3.33.
On April 17, it was nearly $3.41, and a year ago it was $3.76.
In Princeton and Caldwell County, it’s between $3.14 and $3.55. In Calloway County, it’s around $3.00. Near Hopkinsville and Christian County, it’s from $3.04 to $3.15. It’s $3.19 in Crittenden County. In Madisonville and Hopkins County, it’s from $3.06 to $3.19. In Smithland and Livingston County, it’s around $3.22 to $3.39. Near Eddyville and Lyon County, it’s $3.19 to $3.39. It’s $3.27 in Todd County. And it’s $3.44 to $3.55 in Cadiz.
In Bowling Green, it’s $3.38. In Elizabethtown, it’s $3.21. In Louisville, it’s near $3.66. In Owensboro, it approaches $3.16. And in Paducah, it’s $3.26.
Per AAA, recent increases in oil costs took a break this past week, with the price of oil falling into the upper $70’s per barrel. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline rose less than a nickel to hit $3.66, and today’s national average is 22 cents more than a month ago, but still 46 cents less than a year ago.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, West Texas Intermediate decreased by $1.70 to settle at $79.16. Oil prices fell amid ongoing market concerns that future interest rate increases could tip the economy into a recession, likely leading to reduced oil demand and prices.
