City Of Cadiz Moves $1K Toward 7 Friends Memorial

The Spring Run 5K in Cadiz, held this past Saturday, always has a little more than exercise as its meaning. Its annual proceeds go toward a different local non-profit organization — in hopes of bringing a financial, and sometimes emotional, lift.

Tuesday morning at Cadiz City Hall, Mayor Todd King and officials turned over $1,000 to Jeannie Lawrence and the 7 Friends Memorial.

This December will be the unfortunate anniversary of the untimely deaths for Jeremy Gordon, David Lawrence, Jesse Lawrence, Craig Patric Perry II, Joey Rogers, Steven Wallace and Dale Garner — all returning from a dinner break at Knight & Hale Game Calls when a traffic accident turned fatal.

Jeannie said even now, after three decades, the support is overwhelming.

She added that monies started pouring in soon after “The Seven” passed. So much so, in fact, that scholarships in their names started going out to Trigg County High School’s best and brightest in 1994.

That generosity has gone unchanged, and she hopes the scholarships continue in legacy.

King praised Renaissance on Main Director Janelle Nichols and others for a successful run, which brought in more than 60 participants from all around Kentucky and Tennessee.

He also noted that former Trigg County cross country coach Ken Harrison brought his Stewart County team in for the effort, which takes a winding path near the Trigg County Senior Citizens Center.

At the upcoming Scholarship Day, King said 60 $500 scholarships, totaling around $30,000, will go to TCHS seniors for their next steps in education.

The 7 Friends Memorial Golf Tournament, which also brings in a considerable fold of scholarship funding, is planned for May 13 at Boots Randolph Golf Course. A meal will be ready at 10:30 AM, with play scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM.
