A bond hearing in Christian County Circuit Court Wednesday morning turned into a contentious exchange between attorneys over the timing of discovery that has been turned over in the case.
60-year-old Rodolfo Amaya is accused of the March 5 shooting death of 43-year-old Dante Welch on New Gritton Avenue in Oak Grove.
During a March preliminary hearing, an Oak Grove police officer testified that Amaya shot Welch after a dispute involving loud music. Amaya and Welch were neighbors. Police said Welch was sitting in a vehicle and was shot twice in the head by Amaya with a toddler in the back seat.
Amaya’s attorney, Doug Moore, asked Judge John Atkins to reduce the bond for his client, which was set following his arrest at $500,000. Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Bolen requested bond be unchanged.
