A short, but extremely busy, Cadiz City Council meeting concluded Tuesday night with members unanimously approving a strong economic development incentive for Gigi’s Boutique.
The decision came after 20 minutes of executive session, and councilwoman Susie Hendricks bore the news — revealing the according ordinance.
Recent winners of the 2023 Trigg County Chamber of Commerce “Horizon Award” as a burgeoning local business, it’s clear Tammy Melton and all associates have full plans for structured growth in the months ahead.
Those plans weren’t publicly discussed Tuesday evening, but the 1939 Main Street Suite C location already has affordable gifts, decor and more for local shoppers, regional visitors and out-of-state patrons. Mayor Todd King confirmed that Gigi’s is expanding in a certain capacity.
City Clerk Connie Allen confirmed that Heather Gray and other officials from Joy Closet recently connected with Cadiz officials, announcing there is full intention to eventually bring a brick-and-mortar facility potentially inside the city limits.
Originating in Hopkinsville, the non-profit organization assists foster and surrogate families in the nine-county Pennyrile region with a number of resources. And, due to demand, its efforts have only continued to grow.
As such, city council members unanimously approved a $1,000 donation to the organization, all but confirming mutual interest in their possible arrival. Gray is expected to visit the council at a later time.
King read a letter from the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, confirming that a symbolic bench, celebrating the 250th anniversary of America, is to be erected in front of the Trigg County Judicial Center.
A dedication has been set for 2 PM November 5. The public is invited to attend.
King also confirmed that, while the new covering for the Farmers Market is “near completion” on the old CeeBee grocery lot, it will not be ready for public use at the Trigg County Country Ham Festival. The pavilion’s public bathrooms and electrical conduit are accounted for in schematics, but the work can’t be completed before October 13-14-15. Otherwise, the structure is sound and ready for a bazaar.
Cadiz Police Chief Tyler Thomas noted a brand-new Chevrolet police car, one ordered last year, remains on back order and has yet to arrive. All of its equipment is paid for and ready in-shop. Council members unanimously approved for Thomas to begin the process of ordering two other cruisers through ABC Funds, and the chief added that it will still be 6-to-8 months for those to arrive.
