GOOD NEWS – Sharkey, Batts Elected As Student Reps For Christian County Schools

For the second straight year, officials with the Christian County Public Schools will be embracing a senior from both Christian County and Hopkinsville High School as trusted representatives for the Board of Education.

During Thursday night’s board meeting, Instructional Supervisor Dr. Kadi Ralston and Board Attorney Jack Lackey, Jr., announced and swore in Jesslyn Sharkey for the Colonels and Kylie Batts for the Tigers.

Elected by their high school peers to serve, Ralston said their new responsibilities will be broad, expansive and necessary for district success.

Sharkey is the daughter of Victoria Sharkey and Joey Hendrix. An active member of Student Council, the Superintendent Student Advisory Council and Yearbook staff, she’s also a key component for KYA, the BETA Club, the National Honor Society and other pivotal student organizations.

For the past two years, she’s been an employee at Jersey Mike’s, where Dr. Ralston noted she’s considered a “very valuable employee.”

The daughter of Keith and Kim, Batts is an active member of the Superintendent Student Advisory Council, KYA, National Honor Society, HOSA and the Lady Tigers swim team. She also attended the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs this past summer, and believes it’s her primary mission to serve fellow students, while advocating for their interests, concerns and aspirations.

In a letter to the public, Superintendent Chris Bentzel said he’s “looking forward” to the new perspective these two young ladies will bring.

Sharkey and Batts follow in the footsteps of graduates Ty’Jairria Johnson and Carly Chaudoin, who served the district as first-ever representatives of the schools.
