Five months ago, Hopkinsville’s Chrissy Dilday had little choice but to embrace a double mastectomy, as part of the battle against breast cancer.
Friday afternoon on the campus of WKDZ & WHVO Radio, she shared her story alongside family, other survivors, noted dignitaries and Edge Media Group President & CEO Beth Mann — as part of the 14th Annual Pink Out! Celebration.
Cadiz Mayor Todd King, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight, Trigg County Judge-Executive Stan Humphries and Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam shared proclamations — declaring October 2023, and specifically October 27, as “Breast Cancer Awareness” Month and “Breast Cancer Awareness” Day for the local community.
Mann gave nod to both the Christian County and Trigg County Relay for Life efforts, both of which are currently ongoing. Near Hopkinsville, fundraising goals are nearing $80,000, while those near Cadiz concluded their Survivor’s Dinner earlier this week.
Friday’s efforts centered around donations and support for the Pink Ribbon Network — a group of women, Mann said, that go above and beyond to save lives with no discrimination.
Kerry Fowler, alongside inaugural ham-biscuit-eating-champion Jeff Oliver, presented a $3,000 check to the proud organization — lauding fundraising efforts for the first-time competition.
Mann also gave praise to premium sponsors for the event, which only continues to grow, as well as Genesis Express — which spent the afternoon on campus selling its popular barbecue to raise funds for both the Network and an Intergenerational community center that’s nearing completion.
As a survivor herself, she also reflected on a tougher time — a time when she and former WKDZ/WHVO owner D.J. Everett III endured cancer together.
Visitors were treated to special cupcakes made possible through Hancock’s Neighborhood Market, goodie bags, and available flu shots through the Trigg County Hospital.
