While Daniel Cameron didn’t win the statewide race for governor, Trigg County favored the Republican candidate for the fourth straight election that was part of a red sweep.
Cameron defeated incumbent Andy Beshear in Trigg by 1,059 votes. Four years ago, Beshear lost Trigg County to Matt Bevin by 1,217 votes.
Each of the seven voting centers in Trigg County voted the way of the Republican candidate. Secretary of State Michael Adams received the most votes of any candidate with 2,895. Cameron received the fewest of the winners with 2,591. However, that total was the second most received for a gubernatorial candidate in Trigg in the last 50 years. Matt Bevin received 2,839 four years ago.
4,131 people voted in Trigg County, good for a 34-percent turnout. While it was 480 fewer people than 2019, it’s the second most for a governor’s election in the county in the past 50 years.
907 people took advantage of the three-day early voting window last week, something County Clerk Carmen Finley encouraged everyone to do moving forward.
