Last week, Governor Andy Beshear reminded Kentuckians that the final phase of the Kentucky Automated Vehicle Information System, or KAVIS, will be rolled out in January to replace an outdated system, which will affect vehicle registrations, transferring titles, license plate and disabled placard issuances. He also discussed changes to license plates coming in 2024.

Gov. Beshear highlighted two changes for Kentuckians to take note of that start in the new year that will improve vehicle services.

As a reminder, the governor said county clerk offices across the state will temporarily pause car and boat services across the state beginning January 1st.

He said individuals will need to check with their local county clerk’s office for the specific reopening date.

Furthermore, he noted that based on structural changes over the last four years this will not impact driver’s license issuance at regional driver’s licensing regional offices.

During his update, Beshear also announced that this year, Kentucky State Police collected 162,047 pounds of food from the annual statewide “Cram the Cruiser” food drive. The initiative, hosted by all 16 KSP posts, aims to collect essential food items to brighten the holiday season for those in need. Troopers accepted donations from Kentuckians at grocery and retail stores, as well as local post locations.

Gov. Beshear shared that because of everyone’s generosity and selflessness, thousands of Kentuckians will have a happier Christmas season, and for that, he is grateful.
