Public Hearing Scheduled For Revised Dogwood Corners LLC Solar Plan

Officials with Oriden and Dogwood Corners LLC have called for a public hearing at 4 PM Monday, January 29, to be convened at 511 South Main Street in Hopkinsville.

This is to give notice that the Kentucky State Board of Electric Generation and Transmission Siting will gather, in order to receive public comments surrounding the application of a certificate of construction for an approximate 125-megawatt merchant electric solar generating facility in Christian County.

Erica Miller, administrative assistant for the Christian County Judge-Executive Office of Jerry Gilliam, said the notice was issued to local newspapers January 20, and that she had to call Kentucky’s Public Service Commission in order to get information about the public hearing.

Earlier this week, Christian County Circuit Judge John Atkins issued a memorandum of dismissal against the Dogwood Corners LLC civil suit against Christian County Fiscal Court — following the body’s full approval of an amended ordinance befitting state recommendations for large solar electric generation facilities.

It’s clear, now, that with the new 2,000-foot variance, Oriden and Dogwood Corners LLC officials are still seeking to create a large — but reduced — solar farm in southwestern Kentucky. On June 14, 2022, officials with the Christian County Fiscal Court originally approved a $220 million, 550-acre, 175-megawatt solar farm from the Mitsubishi power venture.

This new project appears to generate 50 fewer megawatts.
