The addition of new industry in Hopkinsville and the southern part of Christian County means traffic headaches if the problems aren’t addressed well ahead of time.
Christian County Judge-executive Jerry Gilliam said he has had frequent conversations with local legislators about improving roads in the areas where the industrial sector is growing.
click to download audioOne other transportation issue Gilliam said was facing the county is the intersection of Lover’s Lane and Lafayette Road, which is expected to see a significant traffic increase when the new Christian County High School opens at the opposite end of Lover’s Lane at Fort Campbell Boulevard.
click to download audioGilliam said perhaps the largest and most important project, not only to Christian County but also to Clarksville and western Kentucky is the widening of I-24 north from Nashville from four lanes to six lanes.
Tennessee has already acted on that project, allocating $511 million to widen a corridor of I-24 from Exit 1 near the Kentucky state line to exit 11 from four lanes to six. Construction is expected to begin in 2033.
Gilliam said the Kentucky portion of the project is still in the planning stages.
