A resolution, without a trial, could be on the horizon for Ann Harrison — one of two parties charged in connection with the 2022 Oak Grove death of Anthony Gilstrap, Sr.
During a Wednesday hearing in Christian County Circuit Court, Defense Attorney Doug Moore and Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy confirmed they and fellow Defense Attorney Stephanie Ritchie-Mize convened earlier this week — and the conversation bore fruit.
Harrison will appear again the afternoon of April 24.
Her charges include murder, first-degree criminal abuse, and several other related offenses congruent with Gilstrap’s death.
According to an Oak Grove Police investigation, he was taken to the hospital on July 10, 2022, with unresponsive signs tied to severe neglect, gangrene, sepsis, an open wound with bones exposed and pressure ulcers.
He died a month later.
Last September, Gilstrap’s son, Jacob, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the death of his father, and on equitable charges. His mediation led to a guilty plea and amended charges, where he, too, avoided trial.
Those amendments: wanton abuse, wanton exploitation of an adult and eight counts of animal cruelty. The murder charge was reduced to reckless homicide.
