Honoring our servicemembers the proper way when they pass is important to the VFW, especially Post 1913 in Hopkinsville.
Commander John Brame told Your News Edge they bring out the honor guard to an average of five to six funerals monthly.
He added when Fort Campbell officials aren’t able to come, they perform their parts.
Of course, as time wears on, more and more service members are passing away – like 102-year-old Lou Conter who passed away this week. Conter was the last living survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor when the USS Arizona was struck, killing 1,177.
