The Tennessee Valley Authority congratulated the school districts across their service area that participated in the 2024 School Uplift Grant program Thursday, including two schools in Todd County.
South Todd Elementary and Todd Central High School each received $10,000 through the program, which Erica Skipworth – a music, art, and STEAM teacher at South Todd said would purchase some new items.
She added the decisions for the purchases came from meetings held at each school.
The purpose of the program is to find ways to cut down on energy costs, which in turn saves schools at least ten percent on energy costs, according to the TVA. Skipworth said along the way, both schools were able to incorporate the students, so this became an educational process for them.
Notable Uplift grants in western Kentucky included North Calloway Elementary School – awarded $210,000 and Benton Elementary School – awarded $25,000. Meanwhile, Chandler’s Elementary School, Fulton County Elementary-Middle School, Graves County High School, and Butler County High School each received $10,000.
