Trigg County Adds Storm Debris Drop-Off Sites

During Trigg County’s Local Emergency Planning Commission meeting Friday morning, it was announced there are two additional sites where residents can drop off green debris to be burned.

Trigg County Emergency Management Director David Bryant said one is directly across from the Trigg-Lyon Fire Department. The second new site is off of Kentucky 525/New Hope Church Road between Maggie Road and Hardy Road. Both locations are marked with signage and are only accepting organic debris Monday-Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The county has also been accepting trees and tree limbs behind the Trigg County Road Garage off Old Hopkinsville Road, near Southern States. That site is open Monday-Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

During the meeting, officials from the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement shared that storm debris cleanup is still taking place along some of the horse trails in Land Between the Lakes. Many trees were knocked down during the recent storms, one fell on a camper with people inside in the Piney Campground – no injuries were reported.

Cadiz Public Works Director Craig Oakley mentioned his crews are continuing debris cleanup, but it could be at least a month before it’s all cleared.

The meeting concluded with a communications exercise led by Richard Palmer, the school resource officer for Trigg County’s primary and middle schools, to improve inter-agency disaster communication. The exercise revealed weaknesses when cell services fail and provided scenarios for practice, identifying necessary communication improvements.
